UWP: RAFFAELLA SPAGNOLELLO

RAFFAELLA SPAGNOLELLO (ENG)

A Sicilian born and bred, Raffaella spent long periods of her childhood at her parents' beach house where she got to know the sea from up close without fear.

She lived in symbiosis with it, learning to understand its moods and discovering its wonders day after day.

For a long time diving remained nothing but a pipe dream. She only observed the underwater world through her mask and snorkel.

In her late thirties she realized that her desire to be close to the sea could no longer be repressed and so she decided to take the test for the Open Water Diver certificate.

From that day on she devoted most of her free time to scuba diving, even more so in recent years thanks to her partner (in crime), who spurred her on to combine her passion for diving with photography.

Encouraged by winning first place at Isotta Trophy 2017, her first photo competition, in the category “Compact Cameras”, she continued her competitive activity as a member of the "G.R.O. Sub Catania" divers team.

In the last two years she took part in the Italian Underwater Photography Championships, where she conquered a good position in the general leaderboard and even won one of the theme categories in 2019.

Although she does not like to let go of her camera, she’s been known - in exceptional cases and for loved ones only – to play the part of a model, which is also what drew her to underwater photography in the first place.

She has always been a keen traveler and has, in recent years, devoted herself to the discovery of the sea floor of the countries she visits.

RAFFAELLA SPAGNOLELLO (ITA)
