I was born in Catania on 24.09.1968 and before even knowing how to swim I spent hours observing the bottom of the sea with my mask. Since childhood I have expressed an interest in photography using the family camera, but only as an adult have I started to have fun with Yashica Fx3-2000 Super, using lens from fish eye to macro 100mm. I wore the ARA group when the double tank was loaded at 160 Bar and the Aquilon was not yet an article for the museum! In 1987 I obtained my PADI OWD with CATANIA DIVING SCHOOL and it is with the Yashica that a few years after I started my first underwater photographic experience with housing Nimar and flash Isotta 33TTL. Over the years the housings has changed and has passed to the Nikon: sympathy which continues today. The D90, the Igloo housing, dome and Isotta flash keep me company. I prefer to take underwater shots than above water, but I love the landscapes and human subjects. When I put the eye behind the viewfinder it’s like crossing a time portal that transports me to a magical world. Since 1994 I delight in instructing those who allow me to convey my passion for the activity and underwater photography. With G.R.O. SUB CATANIA underwater photographic team I made my debut the Italian championship of underwater photography safaris in 1997 and gained 2nd place which, added to other podium finishes in the following years, and has allowed me to grow as part of the Italian Safari Team, until reaching the title of Italian Champion in Safari Fotosub in 2003, doubled in 2006 with the one for the Team. I’ve also won awards in best macro and placed 5th accompanied me in FIPSAS photography competitions. I was summoned as a juror of underwater photography and underwater photography safaris, in the seasons from 2010 to 2014, in which I haven’t participated as an athlete. In 2002 and 2005 I also participated in the Italian Championship Sub Video and from 2008 onwards I have delighted in the creation of video for Mister Jump Ustica Diving Center, of which I became a co-owner in 2015. Some of my images are part of marine area protected archive Islands of the Cyclops Acitrezza, others have been part of exhibitions at the Cutgana in Taormina and others have participated in contests gaining the consent of the public. I love photographing fish and macro subjects but it’s the ambient photography that gives me the greatest emotions, especially when my wife Sabrina takes me by allowing me to portray her in the eye-catching scenes. Despite time being scarse for the construction of underwater images out, the commitment, the will, patience and love for the sea that characterize me are the ingredients that stimulate my future.

Sono nato a Catania il 24.09.1968 ed ancor prima di saper nuotare trascorrevo ore ad osservare il fondo con la mia mascherina. Sin da bambino ho manifestato l'interesse per la fotografia utilizzando la macchinetta di famiglia, ma solo da adulto ho cominciato a divertirmi con la Yashica Fx3-2000 Super, utilizzando obiettivi dal fish eye al macro da 100mm. Ho indossato il gruppo ARA quando il bibo si caricava a 160 Bar e l’Aquilon non era ancora un articolo da museo! Nel 1987 ho conseguito il brevetto PADI OWD con la SCUOLA SOMMOZZATORI DI CATANIA. Ed è proprio con la Yashica che qualche anno dopo ho iniziato le mie prime esperienze subacquee con la custodia Nimar ed il flash Isotta 33TTL. Negli anni son cambiate le custodie e son passato alle Nikon, simpatia a tutt’oggi invariata. La D90, la custodia Igloo, gli oblò e flash Isotta continuano a farmi compagnia. La fotografia subacquea è quella che gode maggiormente dei miei scatti, ma amo i paesaggi ed i soggetti umani. Quando poso l'occhio dietro al mirino è come se attraversassi un portale temporale che mi trasporta in un mondo magico. Dal 1994 mi diletto ad istruire coloro che mi permettono di trasmettere la mia passione per l’attività e la fotografia subacquea. Nelle file del G.R.O. SUB CATANIA ho esordito al campionato italiano di safari fotosub nel 1997 ottenendo un 2° posto che, aggiunto ad altri piazzamenti sul podio negli anni successivi, mi ha permesso di crescere nell’ambito del Club Azzurro fino al raggiungimento del titolo di Campione Italiano di Safari Fotosub nell’anno 2003, duplicato nel 2006 con quello per Società. Qualche premio come migliore macro e piazzamenti fino al 5° posto mi hanno accompagnato nelle gare di fotografia, sempre in ambito FIPSAS. Sono stato convocato come giurato di safari fotosub e di fotografia subacquea, nelle stagioni dal 2010 al 2014, in cui non ho partecipato come atleta.
Nel 2002 e nel 2005 ho partecipato anche al Campionato Italiano di Video Sub e dal 2008 in poi mi sono dilettato nella realizzazione dei video per il Mister Jump Diving Center di Ustica, di cui sono diventato comproprietario nel 2015. Alcune mie immagini fanno parte dell’archivio dell’area marina protetta Isole dei Ciclopi di Acitrezza, altre hanno fatto parte di mostre presso il Cutgana a Taormina ed altre ancora hanno partecipato a concorsi riscuotendo il consenso del pubblico. Amo fotografare i pesci ed i soggetti macro anche se la fotografia d’ambiente è quella che mi da le maggiori emozioni, soprattutto quando mia moglie Sabrina mi accompagna permettendomi di ritrarla in scene accattivanti. Nonostante il tempo a mia disposizione per la realizzazione di immagini subacquee sia sempre minore, l’impegno, la volontà, la pazienza e l’amore per il mare che mi contraddistinguono sono gli ingredienti che stimolano il mio futuro.
